Yacht is an experience.
Each single band member could own a crowd on their own (and they do it, considering they all have equally awesome solo/side projects) and together they might be the closest thing I have to a religion any more. Stupendous.
It helped that @pandashark and I spent the whole show roughly face-to-torso with singer/performance artist Claire Evans, who is the straight-up greatest frontperson in the game. Her Jagger/Bowie/Lennox/Mercury/Alien/Yoga performance style is captivating.
The funny thing is that her intense stage presence is the only reason people aren’t talking about how great guitarist/singer/co-conspirator Jona Bechtolt (formerly of Blow) is on stage. It’s a further embarrassment of riches considering you have Bobby Birdman on bass and Jeffery Jerusalem (who played a great set right before Yacht) on drums.
Note on the photography: Shot with my Canon s95 — a really wonderful little point-and-shoot that still struggles with noise at low light/high ISO much more than even a cheap dSLR — and processed through Vignette on my phone (only to turn chunky sensor noise into cool-looking, Black Flag-style film grain).
