Freaky’s gutted by fire
While I grudgingly watched TV last night after the Jens Lekman show at the Gothic was cancelled due to weather, according to Gothic management (his weather, not ours), Freaky’s on Broadway burnt to a crisp. I almost rented one of the apartments that were smoke-damaged above Freaky’s last year. It’s not like a “I missed my flight that turned out to be the plane that hit the Pentagon” miss, but it’s a miss all the same.
The shop was completely destroyed, and unfortunately, there were victims:
“People were assisted in the evacuation,” said Champagne. “No one was hurt, but a couple of animals were.”
Two cats were killed in the blaze, and a third cat was rescued.
The blaze took about 35 to 40 minutes to extinguish, with the first floor tattoo shop completely destroyed.
