Crayola rocks my freakin’ world
As you could have guessed from the very name of Sarah’s blog, she has elevated the art of crayon caricatures
to a new realm of minimalist awesomeness. (Check out her crazy-awesome drawings of her favorite artists)
We bought her some new supplies tonight so she could rock out a new piece, featuring Laurie Anderson, and I convinced her to buy some Crayola Slick Stix, because, to be frank, I’ve got a bit of an unhealthy office supply fetish and am compelled to try out every even remotely unique method of making marks on paper.
I was expecting a lot, and my god, I was not disappointed. These things are the greatest. You know how purposeful and vivid the calligraphy seems in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon? That’s how I felt drawing with these things. Every stroke was slippery and smooth and rich and bold and vivid and I can’t really do it justice in words. Let’s just say I felt like Master Chong, here, despite the fact that I’m using a mass-produced crayon on copy paper and he’s using a mop full of ink and a room-sized easel. We’re practically the same:
Here’s the final result of my quick initial sketch and it already looks 150 times better than anything I’ve ever drawn before. Such is the power of Slick Stix.

Ahhh young grashoppa! Grease or wax?
